A lacquered copper Buddhist priest’s helmet (“mukata”), showing the Buddha’s extended earlobes and, in the medallion at the front, the seated Lord Buddha with five different positions of the hands (“mudras”); on top a thunderbolt (“doorje”) finial. Nepal, Kathmandu valley; Newar people; 19th c. Lacquered copper; gilt brass.
