The African/Middle Eastern Zar Cult, in existence since the 18th Century possibly earlier. It is a possession cult born from the slaves coming from Sudan.
This is a silver amulet or talisman box with the name of God engraved upon one side in Arabic and a flower on the other side and it would have been proscribed for the wearer to be helped in the cult with prayers and invocations placed inside it.
Marked Egyptian, silver 1927 2 inches high.
